Opportunities in Intelligent Agent Research & Development at BT Labs

The Intelligent Systems Research Group, part of the Advanced Applications and Technologies (AA&T) department at BT Laboratories, is carrying out leading research and development into intelligent agent technology.

We are interested in hearing from candidates who may be be interested in joining one of the company's leading edge research groups which has a long track record in carrying out world-class R&D and successful exploitation in applications.

We are undertaking R&D in Intelligent Agents and Advanced Information Processing Technologies including in the following:

Possible openings will require extensive contact with UK and international research institutions and close liaison with other operational divisions within BT.

The group has extensive collaborations with leading UK and American universities including the universities of Oxford, London (Imperial, Queen Mary & Westfield, and University Colleges), Aberdeen, Reading, the Open University, New Hampshire (USA) and MIT.

BT Laboratories (BTL), at Martlesham Heath in the east on England, is acknowledged as one of the world leading telecommunications R&D centres in terms of both size and excellence.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Play a major part in the research, design and development of agent-based proof-of-concept demonstrators and their later integration with other technologies e.g. the WWW, speech, multi-media, machine learning and planning & scheduling. Play a major role in identifying new applications for agents and managing our extensive university collaborations for the benefit of the company.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

PhD or equivalent research experience in an area related to software agent technology or advanced information processing. Good innovative and software programming skills including in Java, C++, C, PC and UNIX. High motivation and good interpersonal, teamworking, writing and communication skills. Other skills in distributed object and component integration technologies (e.g. CORBA, OLE/COM, etc) will be desirable.
