Carnegie Mellon - Research Programmer (Agents/Electronic Commerce) Date: Tue, 29 Oct 1996 17:14:07 -0800 From: Anandeep_Pannu@ISL1.RI.CMU.EDU Research Programmer needed for a project involving development of intelligent agents for information access and electronic commerce. The project will involve working on integrating information sources with different architectures, developing agents to access information across architectures and negotiation protocols between agents. The research content of the project will be significant but the project also provides an opportunity to work with diverse architectures both hardware (Apple, PC compatibles and UNIX workstations) and software (UNIX, Perl, TCL/TK, Java). The task is challenging in that it involves developing state of the art Intelligent Distributed Systems in a real world environment while supporting research in knowledge representation, scheduling, machine learning, case-based reasoning and distributed systems. Our group is working on projects such as WARREN - which involves agents in the financial domain and PLEIADES - which involves multi-agent coordination and learning. Research issues being investigated span the full spectrum of agent research and include (but are not limited to) multi-agent coordination, probabilistic planning, using Bayesian learning in negotiation, agent architectures, machine learning in information access, learning user preferences, interleaving planning and execution and distributed agent computation. The work environment is supportive and informal. The task involves interacting with faculty, graduate students and research programmers in a high motivation and high technical competency environment. Publishing of technical papers based on contributed ideas is encouraged. Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications. The suitable candidates are expected to meet the following requirements REQUIRED - Strong Perl or C or C++ skills. Experience with CGI-bin programming BS Degree in CS / related field.
