Job Vacancy in Applied Agent Research

Hewlett-Packard's European Research Centre is situated in Bristol, UK. Here,
more than two hundred researchers from all over Europe (and beyond) work
together to achieve research goals which will lead to new products for the
company in three to five years time. Our Mediated Communication Systems
Department is working to shape the future of communication systems for
individuals, teams and organisations. Portable computation, combined with
the latest mobile communications technology provides a rich environment for
supporting distributed teamwork and effective communication. Through a
principled study of user requirements, we aim as a department to develop the
software systems required to provide individuals and mobile teams with the
communications support they need.
We are combining a strong emphasis on developing and testing prototype
communication services with longer term investigations into technologies we
believe will be important to HP's future success. We currently have a vacancy
on our applied research team in agent technology. This group's challenge is to
go beyond the hype and identify the agent approaches most likely to help us
build ground-breaking mediated communication systems. We aim to
collaborate with the best researchers in agent technology to create innovative
solutions.
If you have one or more years experience of agent technology and want to
explore the opportunities for applied research, we'd like to hear from you. You
will need experience of at least one high level programming language,
preferably object-oriented, and good inter-personal and communications skills.
You must also be prepared to try new approaches and combine being strongly
motivated with a willingness to build on other's ideas in a team situation.
