PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The InfoSleuth Project and related projects at MCC are investigating the use of agent and database technologies to support information management, discovery, and analysis in large-scale dynamic environments including the Internet and enterprise-wide heterogeneous information sources. Project research areas include: * Heterogeneous databases (semantic integration, queries, resolution of heterogeneity). * The use of cooperating, adaptive, and autonomous agents for information location, access, and manipulation, and the use of supporting technologies such as KQML and Java. * The use of workflows/nomadic transactions for information management and discovery. POSITIONS: DATABASE RESEARCHER The candidate should have a background in multi-database systems and knowledge of interoperability standards. This position entails research with some development. Required: * PhD, or MS with minimum two years relevant experience. * Good OO programming skills (implementation of prototypes be required). * Unix or NT programming background. * Good oral and written communication skills. Desirable: * Java (or C++; you will learn Java here). * ODBC. * DAI/agents. * Distributed object systems (CORBA, RMI, etc.). * Design Patterns. AI RESEARCHER The candidate should have a background in DAI, agent architectures, planning, and KR. Experience with KQML, KIF, PROLOG a definite plus. This position entails research with some development. Required: * PhD, or MS with minimum two years relevant experience. * Good OO programming skills (implementation of prototypes will be required). * Unix or NT programming background. * Good oral and written communication skills. Desirable: * Java (or C++; you will learn Java here). * Multidatabase systems. * Distributed object systems (CORBA, RMI, etc.) * Ontologies. * Design Patterns. SOFTWARE DEVELOPER The candidate should have a background in real-world OO software development, with a good grounding in both software development processes and theoretical Computer Science. This position entails both development and research. Required: * Bachelors degree in CS or related field is required; advanced degree is strongly preferred. * Minimum 3-4 years industry experience (grad school doesn't count) in OO software development. * Significant experience with Java, C++, Smalltalk, and/or Objective-C. * Unix or NT programming background. * Good oral and written communication skills. Desirable: * Java. * Design patterns and OO design methods. * Compilers. * GUI design. * Distributed object systems (CORBA, RMI, etc.) * Web/Internet technologies. * Agents/DAI. * Databases.
